What can I do about
my flat hair?
Several approaches can be effective:
- One is to add layers to your hair. However, if your hair is
very fine, too many layers could make the frame of the haircut
look thin and wispy unless you are wearing your hair short.
- Another approach is to have your stylist add color to your hair
or do a texturizing permanent. Chemical services add body to the
hair by causing the cuticle layer (the outside layer of the hair
shaft) to swell or lift, thereby making each individual hair strand
thicker. Be careful with these procedures, though. Have them done
by a reputable professional only.
- You can also get more body by using a styling product formulated
to add body to the hair. A great one for this is Power
Gel. For an added boost, it can be mixed with a little TFeX.
I have frizzy hair. How can I control it?
Frizzy hair has many causes, and the solution depends on the cause.
Possible reasons for hair being frizzy range from genetics to over
blow-drying or overusing heat elements such as curling irons and
flat irons to using the wrong products. Sometimes people use the
wrong products because they're looking at cost alone and not considering
the desired result.
Your solution for the frizzies may be to allow your
hair to dry naturally instead of blowing dry or using heat elements.
Chances are a moisturizing shampoo such as Silk,
a rich, moisturizing conditioner such as Hydra,
and a conditioning control cream such as Silker
or Hydro Gel for even
greater control would make your hair more manageable.
I suggest that you send me a sample of your hair so
that I may better understand how to guide you. Please include a
self-addressed, stamped envelope or email address for my reply.

When I style my hair, it doesn't last all
day long. What can I do?
There are two common reasons for the failure of a style to hold
up.
- The shampoo you use might be too heavy and over-condition your
hair. Try using a shampoo such as Linen
Shampoo. Its soothing ingredients, including matricaria (chamomile)
and panthenol (Vitamin B-5), cleanse gently while replenishing
the hair shaft for better performance.
- Your styling product may not have the holding power your hair
needs. Try using a gel such as Power
Gel—very effective even for men and women with fine,
thin or thinning hair. This weightless styling product interacts
with each hair strand to add plenty of volume and body. The botanically
rich, alcohol-free formula does not flake or build up.
My hair is dull and lifeless. What can help?
There could be a coating on your hair from products you are using.
Try Linen Shampoo, which
will gently remove any buildup after a few shampoos to restore the
luster of your hair.
You might also have a raised cuticle layer (the outside
layer of your hair). This condition can be caused by excessive blow-drying,
by flat iron or curling iron use or by using a shampoo that is too
harsh for your hair. If you frequently use heat implements on your
hair, try my Silk
Spray, which is formulated to protect your hair from thermal
use.
My hair keeps breaking off. Is there anything I can do to
help it?
If your hair is breaking as a result of chemical services to your
hair, a protein rich conditioner such as Replenish
should help restore hair strength and flexibility. This tri-protein
conditioner formulated especially for dry, damaged or chemically
treated hair deep-conditions both the inner and outer layers of
the hair shaft for benefits beyond what any single protein can accomplish.
Botanical extracts energize and revitalize depleted, stressed hair.
Sometimes hair breaks off even if you don't have color
processing or permanents. This type of hair needs to be treated
with great care with respect to combing and brushing. A very gentle
shampoo such as Linen Shampoo
is needed as well as a lightweight conditioner with protein such
as Replenish.
If you continue to have this problem, contact me again,
or better yet, send a sample of your hair so that I may examine
it closely. Please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope or
email address for my reply.

What is the best hairstyle for my face shape?
First determine the shape of your face. Start by pulling your hair
straight back off your face and look in a mirror to judge if your
face is long, round, oval or heart-shaped. Tracing the outline of
your face on the mirror with lipstick might make the determination
easier.
An oval shape is considered ideal. If your face fits
this pattern, you can wear a variety of styles, perhaps choosing
one that plays up your best feature—such as side-swept bangs
to draw attention to your eyes.
If your face matches one of the other shapes, choose
a hairstyle that counterbalances that shape to create an oval illusion.
For example, go with a longer style that has fullness below the
brow if your face is heart-shaped.
If you send me a photo or describe
your face shape and features, I can better help you. Please included
a self-addressed, stamped envelope or your email address for a reply.
